GUIDANCE FOR STUDENTS SELECTED FOR ERASMUS MOBILITIES
1. SELECTION
Please consult the website of the International Relations and Community Programmes Office for up-to-date details on the selection (the News section) and useful links to the partner universities.
2. ERASMUS GRANT
The grant for all mobilities includes individual support for subsistence and travel support. See information about mobilities in the attached document (click here)
We recommend that you consider early on the possibility of finding additional sources of funding for the period of mobility abroad. It is important to note that the ERASMUS+ grant does not fully cover travel and living expenses abroad, and according to the National Agency's regulations, at the time of departure on mobility, you will receive 80% of the total value of the grant, and the remaining 20% after the transcript of records has been received and the EU questionnaire completed.
3. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
In EU and EEA countries, you can travel with an identity card (ID) issued by the Romanian authorities or with a passport (optional).
ATTENTION: Students selected for mobilities in North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey can travel ONLY with a passport. Students from the Republic of Moldova who do not have Romanian citizenship (a Romanian passport) and non-EU students must apply for a study visa at the embassy of the respective country. Check the validity of your passport, bearing in mind that the mobility may take place during the second semester of the 2025 – 2026 academic year (January/February – July 2026). The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the estimated date of return to Romania.
4. EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD/INSURANCE
Before leaving, apply for the European Health Insurance Card from the Health Insurance House of your county of residence. Students from the Republic of Moldova without Romanian citizenship will need to take out private health insurance.
5. ERASMUS GRANT TOP-UP
- Students with fewer opportunities, for example recipients of a social grant or those eligible for one (but who did not receive it because of a lack of university funds), or first-generation students, will receive a monthly top-up of 250 euros, on the basis of supporting documents.
- The Erasmus+ programme encourages the participation of students with special needs. If a selected student has physical or mental disabilities or other health problems requiring additional support, the university may apply to the National Agency for an additional special needs grant to cover the extra costs. Participants who wish to benefit from this additional financial support must discuss these aspects with the Erasmus+ Office representatives while preparing their mobility documents.
FORMALITIES FOR PREPARING THE ERASMUS MOBILITY FILE
a) Administrative formalities – handled by the student, with the support of the Erasmus+ Office:
- filling in the application and accommodation forms (Application Form, Accommodation Form);
IMPORTANT: some partner universities do not offer accommodation on campus, so students have to find their own accommodation in the private sector.
After being accepted by the university abroad:
- opening a euro account at Banca Transilvania, with a euro card, into which the Erasmus grant will be paid.
- signing the financial contract between the student and “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău, which sets out: the amount of the grant, the period of study abroad, the rights and obligations of the Erasmus mobility participant, and the signing of an addendum by the student and a guarantor (a Romanian citizen residing and working in Romania).
b) Academic formalities – handled, before leaving, with the support of the teacher responsible for the inter-institutional agreement with the partner university where the mobility will take place:
- setting the mobility period in good time;
- choosing the subjects to be studied at the partner university and filling in and signing the study contract (Learning Agreement/Online Learning Agreement), which is attached to the application form. For a 3-month mobility, 20 credits must be obtained; for a 1-semester mobility – 30 credits; for a whole academic year – 60 credits.
